"After Life" is a
series produced and scripted by Ricky Gervais, who also plays the lead role of
"Tony" in the series. Ricky Gervais, who has worked as a screenwriter
in many series such as 'The Office', wrote this series by thinking about the
possibility of losing the woman he has loved since his university years. This
makes this series more realistic than other series and makes viewers think.
If we come to the subject of the series; It deals with Tony, a newspaper writer who has difficulty accepting the death of his wife, feeling mentally bad. After the death of his wife, Tony turns into an irritable new personality and at the same time, the series includes funny and thought-provoking scenes. In fact, the biggest element that makes this show different from other shows is this: "When we watch the show, we can feel that all the running around, all the stubborn efforts, all the thinking too much about everything is meaningless and we realize that life is not so simple and complicated. We don't all want to go on with whatever we've been through, and we don't want to go on as if it didn't happen. So what to do? This series gives a very good answer to this question: "ACCEPTANCE"
Even though Tony knew he would never see his wife again, he chose to continue living. Even when he met new people, he saw and remembered his wife "Lisa" everywhere. When he realized that he couldn't replace what he had lost with someone else, he decided to accept and move on in order to heal. This is one of the most important lessons of the series: many people are in need of the life that some people want to end. we realize this in the last episode of the series. The fact that little Lisa, a cancer patient, is always trying to hold on to life makes Tony think and he gives up his suicide thoughts.
After offering a beautiful life to his dog Brandy, the only thing left of Lisa, first his dog and then himself, he gives his life to the world. The series also emphasizes that we realize the importance of people we love when they leave our lives. We don't know when we will be with most of the people we have in our lives right now, and the important thing, Tony says, is that we should do whatever we do with passion. We don't know what's waiting for us and when, but there are a lot of things out there waiting for us. He also says that , we have to make the best of this life that we can't live again and move on.
