The Right to Education by Elif İrem BABAOĞLU

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” said Nelson Mandela, a South African civil rights activist, regarding every person's education rights. Education is a fundamental human right that is accepted in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948). Within its framework, access to education is a vital key that helps people for a better future, facilitating individuals to break free from poverty and discrimination. No matter what their age, race or language is, every person needs to get a quality education; however, everyone’s life condition is not the same. Therefore, every government needs to make some legislation to improve human rights in their countries. Governments must guarantee that their education is available, accessible, acceptable, and adaptable.

Firstly, for everyone to be educated, governments must provide everything needed for education. Foremost, they must provide every citizen, child, or adult, with economical, sufficient, and accurate educational materials.  These materials should be understandable in terms of the language spoken in that country, and if there are mostly foreign students, they need to understand everything in their language. All of them should be prepared by well-trained teachers, and all students should be educated by these teachers. Furthermore, there must be adequate classrooms in schools; all these classrooms should be divided into non-crowded classes according to students’ interests. In this way, each student can find an opportunity to improve their skills in their areas of interest. To put it briefly, governments must take important steps because quality education must be available for every person, and it is necessary for every individual’s future.

Secondly, education must be accessible to all people regardless of their family, abilities, or any other factor. Even if they are disabled, elderly or unemployed individuals, they should have easy access to every educational facility. For this reason, schools must be reachable and suitable for these people. For example, special materials can be prepared for disabled children, and then schools must be designed to meet their needs. If people cannot go to school because of work or some different excuses, governments should find a solution for them. They can be provided with online courses or distance education. Additionally, affordability shouldn’t be a problem for people who cannot allocate money for education. Financial aid projects can be initiated by governments or non-governmental organizations, who volunteer to help them. All individuals, especially children, deserve the best and the most appropriate learning environment.

Thirdly, education must be acceptable to all citizens because it plays a vital role in shaping individuals into responsible and productive members of society. It should be adaptable to one’s culture or beliefs and address everyone indiscriminately. Education also helps individuals understand their civil rights and responsibilities, helping them develop skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, etc. In addition, formal education should also provide useful and appropriate information that is accessible to learners of all abilities. Parents should not need to think twice when they send their children to school. Governments, schools, teachers and even the coursebooks must ensure that they always know what is pedagogically right for the pupils. Overall, if education is accepted by everyone, it can be easy to create a well-informed society that can make better decisions and improve the well-being of a whole country.

Finally, adaptability to education is vital because every individual possesses unique abilities, beliefs and needs. Everyone has different learning styles and techniques. Therefore, education must fulfil everyone’s unique requirements. It should be adjustable to meet the specific needs of certain groups of people, such as those living in remote areas or those with disabilities. In short, adaptability is a crucial aspect of education that ensures that it remains effective and relevant for all individuals. It enables people to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

In conclusion, every person has the right to education. Getting an education is important, but the core objective is to get quality and correct education. Every government must ensure that their educational system is available, accessible, acceptable, and adaptable.
